Lost on film

After all the hype of yesterday we all were relaxed all i had to do was clean up the living room as David and Sarah were calling over about a cine film he had. Ceri called over just as i was cooking bubble and squeak with turkey so had to put it to one side for a while. Just as she said she was leaving mum asked her to stay and see David. He has a film of Lynda holding Sarah as a baby! (my cousin) When he arrived with Sarah and her little baby and boyfriend who ive not met before, we all sat and looked at this silent film of.... Rallying!! typical David but then again the whole family are rally mad. then came a carnival clip, then me and Sarah then... this man in the distance doing a balancing act on the sea defence, taking a closer look it was my dad! mum and i went into shock. It took all my strength not to cry there and then. He was filming mum and myself walking to the sea and back and them mum took over to film him waving me back out of the sea and walking towards the camera smiling and lifting me over the sea defence. It really shook me up because i don't remember any of it! mum doesn't either! Dad has been dead 35 years now i cant barley remember the way he looked, the way he walked with one hand in his pocket and his smart appearance of his pressed trousers, crisp shirt and cardigan and the smell of old spice. Watching him i could feel him round me i could hear his voice once again.

Later that evening i popped into see mum to see if she was ok! the film bothered her... she wanted to watch it again on her portable dvd player just the two of us to reminisce. After it finished i put it in its case and tucked in her draw for safe keeping...its our only link we have of dad now.
