Snowy Mountains

NORTHAMPTON, UNITED KINGDOM - JANUARY 06: Th...

I was packed and almost ready to head back to Scotland but mum had doubts and didn't want me to go with all this snow on the roads. Id been closely watching the weather forecast for the last two weeks and it seemed to be easing off with snow heading south. Even though it had melted in the town and surrounding areas the estethva mountains witch id be driving through still has snow over them. So i put it off till Saturday instead.

I was up at 6.30am, had a wash and i was dressed with layers of clothes, opec tights and socks under my jeans and for good measure a couple of scarves. I wasn't going to rush as i wanted to have a bit of daylight before i left. Mum and Ted warned me if at any time i couldn't get through just turn back.

The car was loaded up and defrosted, i had my flask, sarnies and my blanket in the front and i said my goodbyes to mum inside when it was light.
Heading towards the mountains i could see that the road was thick with snow on one side, there was no grit on the roads anywhere. Id only been driving 20minutes and my windscreen was freezing up, the car in front was driving like a Sunday farmer on a day out, and all these 4x4s were over taking us ( im not risking it i thought) i'll just take my time at my own speed.

The car in front was starting to get on my pip now and he was spraying shit at my windscreen which made it freeze so much i had to stop and clean it, my washers were frozen over.
Once past Newtown, welshpool and on to oswerstry the sun started to come out and the worst of the snow was behind me but it was still white on the fields and trees, like a picture postcard but least the roads were getting better. By 11.30 i was on the outskirts of Chester and i saw the sign m53 m6 Great! i thought i will just get to the motorway and stop on the first service i see.
Traffic had died down the sun was still out and at this rate i will be back in no time.
Every time id stopped i always txted mum to inform her i was ok and where i was at that time. But every time i stopped for a rest i could feel the cold air so didn't stay long. On my journey back i only saw 2 gritting wagons that were heading the opposite way none were going north.
I was making good time and before i knew it i saw the penrith sign then Gretna and i got back to Hamilton by 3.30pm i had to stop to get out and stretch so filled the car up with petrol and headed to motherwell by 4pm.
After phoning mum i unpacked the car put the heating on and my electric heater to take the chill off the air collapsed on the sofa with my new blanket and hot water bottle and fell asleep.
